Thirteen Quicksilver Projects |
Quicksilver is a productivity tool designed to quickly put tools and information at your fingertips. It can help you open files, launch applications, visit bookmarked webpages, get definitions, and more. Unlike the Finder, you don't need to visually look through a huge list of files or applications. Instead, you request them by name and let Quicksilver do the work.
To make your life easier, Quicksilver doesn't require you to remember how everything is spelled. Instead, it intelligently tries to guess what you want as you type. As you use Quicksilver, it learns what tasks you most often request. The more often you perform a task, the easier Quicksilver will make it to repeat it.
As you use Quicksilver, what you see looks like magic. A rectangle pops on screen. Icons fly by as you type and zero in on your task. Once you have told Quicksilver what to do, you hit enter and the rectangle disappears.
Immediately Quicksilver goes to work for you. Maybe a document opens. An application launches. Music pauses. A word is defined. Or maybe a bookmarked webpage pops up.
Within seconds, the task is done and you get back to work or play with minimal interruption. Because Quicksilver trys to intelligently guess what you want to do, little thought, effort, or time is needed to operate it. For many tasks, you won't even need to switch away from your current window. Quicksilver pops up, performs your request, and vanishes. Distraction is minimized.
Want to launch Safari? First type control + space to activate Quicksilver. Then type the name Safari: saf... the familiar icon appears. Hit enter and we're done. Quicksilver launches Safari. The more often you perform a task with Quicksilver, the fewer keys are necessary to select what you want to do. Always launching Safari? Typing "s" might be a big enough hint to select it. In most cases you'll only have to type a few letters to find what you're looking for.
Because Quicksilver can keep track of your files and applications for you, it eliminates the need for you to hunt for them in the Finder.
Since Quicksilver is mostly driven from the keyboard, you won't need to waste time switching from the mouse and back. This works even if you aren't a great typist. Usually only a few key-strokes are needed since Quicksilver intelligently works to guess your intention. The more you use an item or perform an action, the faster Quicksilver will guess it as you type.
Using Quicksilver, you can:
